You know that at Bruner Orthodontics we like to have fun and we encourage you (our patients) to do the same. For our summer contest we asked you to send us a postcard from your summer vacations. You sent us nearly 60 postcards from across the globe. The contest was a great success!
Postcards arrived from Paris to Australia to Bora Bora and beyond! We even had one written on a coconut and delivered by US Mail from Hawaii! You guys certainly had exciting summers filled with new adventures. Every team member at our office enjoyed your post cards.

Bruner Orthodontics supports Redmond Athletics on multiple levels! When I was a kid I played select baseball and basketball in Redmond. It’s fun to be practicing orthodontics in my hometown. My orthodontic office loves to support, encourage and celebrate with our athlete-patients. We sponsor teams and athletic programs and frequently go to games. We are giving back to the community we live in and trying to make a difference in kids lives!
Bruner Orthodontics gives back to our local Redmond Elementary Schools! This year the Bruner Orthodontic team went into 15 classrooms to speak to 1st and 2nd graders at Redmond Elementary, Norman Rockwell Elementary and Alcott Elementary schools.
We spent time teaching them about making healthy choices. We didn’t talk to them about braces or orthodontics. We didn’t talk about invisalign or even the benefits of straight teeth. We talked to the kids in each classroom for 20 minutes about having healthy teeth and a healthy life. We made it fun and interesting for the kids. Some of the kids dressed up as dentists as we talked about what happens at a dental appointment.
In school they are learning about making good decisions, like following their teacher’s instructions. We stressed the need for them to make good decisions about their teeth and health. We taught them how to brush and floss properly, explained the importance of seeing their dentist for regular cleanings and exams, and reviewed which foods are the healthiest for their teeth. Everyone had a great time!! 320 kids went home armed with enthusiasm and information to help them take care of their smiles. They also took home a waterbottle full of toothpaste, floss, a toothbrush, chapstick and information for their parents.
We love to serve the community we are in and we cant wait to get back into the classrooms again next year!

What is the deal with lasers in dentistry? What kind of laser are we talking about? How can a laser be helpful with my orthodontic treatment?
The word LASER is an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.” Lasers have been becoming increasingly popular in dentistry today. Many of the soft tissue procedures in dentistry that used to require more cumbersome and complex surgical procedures can now be completed more simply, quickly and less painfully with a diode laser. The diode laser is a small, low-intensity laser that operates in a wavelength that only targets (or is absorbed by) soft tissue (like gums). The laser energy has no effect and is safe for hard tissue like teeth and bone. This makes a very nice tool for working on a patient’s gingivae (gums).
This is the diode laser that we use at Bruner Orthodontics:
One of the things that routinely lengthens the time it takes for orthodontic treatment is waiting for teeth to erupt. Some of the teeth that are most often delayed in their eruption are the canines and pre-molars. When orthodontists are waiting for impacted teeth to erupt treatment can take 6 to 12 months longer than expected!! The laser allows us to expose the tooth, immediately place the bracket on the tooth, and begin moving the tooth into place. This helps to keep treatment times as short as possible.
Here is the typical laser sequence we see at Bruner Orthodontics:
1. A tooth that is delayed in its eruption.

At Bruner Orthodontics we are constantly looking for ways to improve our orthodontic treatment by providing you with great results in the shortest amount of time!
The Damon System has been shortening the average number of months it takes us to provide orthodontic treatment. What’s the difference? How much shorter is the treatment time?
When we reviewed the records of patients that we treated previously with traditional twin brackets and colored elastic ties the average treatment time was 27 months and required 30 appointments. These cases had nice results and used traditional orthodontic treatment with appointments every four weeks. Our cases treated with the Damon System averaged 18 months and 16 appointments with appointments every 8-10 weeks. Our patients are really happy with their outstanding results, fewer appointments and shorter treatment time.

The Damon System is truly a new, innovative, results driven orthodontic treatment system that is revolutionizing orthodontic treatment. So what’s the difference between the damon system and traditional orthodontic brackets?
The tie-less design of the damon bracket means there is almost no friction between the bracket and the archwire. Now an orthodontist can apply extremely low and gentle forces to teeth and get the desired tooth movement. People with extremely crowded teeth used to routinely be treated with orthodontics that requried surgery or the removal of teeth. The light biologically friendly forces used in the damon system allow the hard and soft tissues of the face to remodel and often allow corrections without extractions! This young man’s parents brought him to me for evaluation only after two other orthodontists wanted to extract his teeth because of the crowding. After careful examination of the patient and his diagnostic records I treatment planned the patient for treatment without extractions. Here are some pictures of the crowded area of his mouth in only the first 9 months! See his progress starting on the left side of the picture. Pay special attention to the space made for his impacted tooth!

A patient with a Class II Deep Bite is often traditionally treated with extractions or jaw surgery. With the damon system we are often able to preserve or improve the facial profile by avoiding the extraction of teeth and still correcting the bite.
The next patient’s upper jaw is ahead of his lower jaw and his lower front teeth bite too far up behind his upper front teeth. His facial profile would be compromised with the extraction of teeth and surgery was not an option for this patient. His difficult case was treated with the damon system in less than 2 years with optimal results:
